Hello Citizen Journalists, I am writing a new solo cabaret show about Anita Bryant, the beauty queen cum singer cum anti-gay activist who made a career out of crusading for a "cure" for homosexuality--and I need YOUR help! Much of the content for this solo performance project will be generated collaboratively through letters to Anita Bryant . . . written by YOU! Her virulent anti-gay activism in the late 1970s marks an important, and lasting, space in LGBTQ history and struggles for social change, and I am now offering you an opportunity to sound off. Your letters will be posted here and might be used in the show, which will be called, most appropriately: Dear Anita. If you give me the okay, I promise to put your name in the program (or you can be anonymous or make up a provocative pseudonym). Let it all out here! How did Anita's "Save Our Children" campaign affect your life? Have you read any of her books? Did you ever enjoy her as a singer? Maybe you caught her show at her theatre in Branson? How do you think her efforts have influenced politics and activism over the last thirty years? If you weren't even born before the late 1970s that's okay, too, I want to hear from everyone. Thank you, and please keep checking my website to see how the project develops... www.elizabethwhitney.com/dearanita Yours in Song, Elizabeth Whitney melismo@msn.com Thank you, and please keep checking the site to see how the project develops... |
