Workshop #1: Touring Solo Performance

For artists new to touring, or for performers organizing a summer festival/fringe tour, this workshop teaches strategies for marketing and touring solo performance.  Workshop topics include putting together a press packet, locating resources for submitting your work, and utilizing conferences and festivals to network with other solo artists, playwrights, directors, and producers. This workshop provides nuts and bolts information for launching a career as a touring artist. Participants create a marketing strategy and a roadmap for their own tour.

Equipment/preparation: Participants should come with possible marketing materials and be ready to think about practical questions and to work in teams.

Workshop size limitations: No limitation on size.

Desired time allotment: 2 hours.

Workshop #2: Crafting Narrative from Personal Experience

This workshop teaches participants how to translate experiences from their lives into engaging, narrative-based solo performance work. Of particular concern in this workshop is creating performance that is inviting to a broad audience. Revising “on our feet” through performance, we experiment with various performance styles and engage in constructive criticism of one another’s work. This workshop explores the following questions:  How can we make our stories appealing to others? To what extent is solo performance always a community/audience endeavor?  How can we craft invitational work that best involves and engages our audience?

Equipment/preparation: Participants should wear comfortable clothing, and come prepared with a short narrative excerpt from their work (3-5 minutes).

Workshop size limitations:  Participants (10); Observers (no limit).

Desired time allotment: 2.5-3 hours.
